From the 4 Piece, Ms Maria Chooses the piece from Loika Because it there are some Design Principles put into the artwork and Ms Maria allows me to analyze deep and create our own interpretation of it
ANALYSIS
This Piece is by Loika, one of my favorite artists. The caption for this piece is " spellmaker; witch years" , might be about a witch counting the moons that have passed by. The main use of this piece is Blue and pastel-like cold colors but we can see some other colors like the white glowing moon and the lighting. This piece have an intresting angle where we can also see the ripple and reflection of the person and the sky. Loika's main use for their piece is usually more detailed in the background more than the person, describing and focusing more on the enviroment.
To me, the main design principles that is used in this piece is Harmony and Contrast with a little bit of Balance. Blue is the main color since it reflects the sky, but the stars and milky way have a diffrent color but it still blends with the sky supporting it. The moon phases are the contrast, it pure glowing light. Another thing i noticed is the lighting of the person, they are shaded with dark and blue colors but some parts of the lighting are illuminated by the moon's light. This piece is balance to me because i can see a reflection of the person and the straight light below the moons, suggesting the reflection of it.
This piece is meant for aesthetics as the meaning of it was quite fantasy like and doesn't really occur in real-life. But from what i see, it's a witch counting passed moons or conjuring a spell.
PROGRESS
I later work on the sketch, since it's more of a colored piece so i just paint the sketch concept for the Background. I use the element of Balance just like the original piece, first i want to sketch a person in a salt flat but quickly scrap it since it would be just the same so i draw the idea of a person on a boat with a lantern
During the tutorial sesion, Ms Maria suggested i add more element like more lanterns and sea creatures, i only did the lanterns first since i can only think of the terrifying ones like kranken, etc
and during the next week's feedback, i was told to give more sea creatures or see-through/clear water
in the final feedback, Ms Maria suggests i use clear water like so we can see the corals. it was quite hard for me since i didnt know how to put it prespectively. I also changed the color in the final piece, making it more similar to the first concept/sketch.
