Lectures
Week 1 : Introduction and briefing
We met our lecturer Ms Annis and Mr Faizal. Ms Annis lectured us about the introduction of Character Designs and what makes them appealing to us along with their principles
- Shapes : shapes are used in every character design, it is what makes them have the iconic look
- Color : Colors are used to determine a character personality and emotions, it also determines heroes or villains
- Emphasis & Contrast : a good character design is when you pick one visual element in a character and exaggerate it, making it outstanding and memorable, sometime picking a cultural element and adding it to a design makes it uniquely and authentic
- Harmony : All shapes, lines, color, motifs, pattern must be put together in a tasteful manner
every element used in your design must work togetherlike they compliment each other - a balance of visual elements has a visual heirachy.
- Expressions/ Poses : this is what makes your character win the heart of an audience, its their behavior/quirks/personality that are visually shown
Week 2 : Chiaroscuro
we are briefed about Chiarocuro, an element that refers to use of light and dark to create the illusion of three-dimensional volume on a flat surface.
the chiaroscuro is used to Increase the dramatic tension, creates a sensational effect, out your subject in a intense way, and create a tasteful composition of negarive vs positive spaces.
one of the common use of this is usually on grayscale paintings or manga, but mostly realistic like manga.
Week 3 : Composition 1
composition is the term usually refers to the arrangement of elements within a work of art. In this lecture, we were briefed about "Rule Of Thirds". The rule of thirds is a "rule of thumb" or guideline which applies to the process of composing visual images.
after that, we continue our lecture about Background, Midground and Foreground.
Week 4 : NO CLASS
Week 5 : Composition 2
For this lecture topic, It is the part 2 of Composition : Prespective. This is the tehnique used to create 3 dimension like drawings/2 dimensional surface.
Week 6 : Composition 3
In this lecture, our topic for composition 3 is Rythm and Movement. With Rythm and Movement in art, our eye follows the flow of the composition, making it very intresting.
Week 7 : Transitions in comics
first, one of the most common transition in comics are Moment to moment. this transition usually used time per panel.
The third one is Subject to subject, which occurs in the same time but just diffrent scenes. This usually drawn a lot when there's a conversation.
Scene to Scene is the fourth one, this transitions takes the viewer with a diffrent time and prespective that follows up the previous panel.

And finally, Aspect to ascpect. This one is quite diffrent from the others (i think) as it shows more in the environment while happening in the same scenes.
